CHICAGO -- The Chicago White Sox have optioned right-handed pitcher D.J. Carrasco to Class AAA Charlotte and have sent right-hander Esteban Loaiza to Class AA Birmingham on an injury rehabilitation assignment.

Carrasco's contract was purchased from Charlotte on July 9 to take the roster spot of Bobby Jenks. He made one appearance for the White Sox, allowing one run on four hits over 5.1 IP on July 11 at Texas, the longest appearance by a Sox reliever since Sean Lowe also went 5.1 IP on May 24, 1999 at Cleveland.

Carrasco, 31, has gone 1-1 with a 2.38 ERA (6 ER/22.2 IP), one save and 23 strikeouts in seven games (one start) with Charlotte this season.

Loaiza, 36, has been on the 15-day disabled list since June 13 (retroactive to June 12) with a right shoulder inflammation. He has gone 0-0 with a 3.00 ERA (1 ER/3.0 IP) in three relief appearances with the Sox in 2008 and also went 0-2 with a 6.55 ERA (8 ER/11.0 IP) in five starts with Charlotte on a rehab assignment from June 16-July 4.
