CHICAGO -- The Chicago White have claimed right-handed pitcher Phil Humber off waivers from the Oakland Athletics.

Humber, 28, spent most of the 2010 season with Class AAA Omaha in the Kansas City organization, going 5-6 with a 4.47 ERA (59 ER/118.2 IP) and 80 strikeouts in 21 games (20 starts). The 6-foot-3, 210-pounder also pitched in eight games (one start) with the Royals, going 2-1 with a 4.15 ERA (10 ER/21.2 IP) and 16 strikeouts.

Humber is 2-1 with a 5.26 ERA (30 ER/51.1 IP) and 35 strikeouts in 26 games (two starts) over parts of five major-league seasons with New York-NL (2006-07), Minnesota (2008-09) and the Royals (2010).

He originally was selected by the Mets with the third overall pick of the 2004 First-Year Player Draft. Humber and three other Mets minor-league players were traded to Minnesota on February 2, 2008, in exchange for pitcher Johan Santana.

With the claim, the White Sox 40-man roster is at 38.
