Alexei Ramirez named American League Player of the Week 05/23/2011 4:01 PM ETMLB.com
Chicago White Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez has been named American League Player of the Week for the period ending May 22. Ramirez, 29, hit .417 (10-24) with six doubles, one home run, nine RBI and six runs scored during the week. He led the AL in RBI and doubles and ranked second in slugging percentage (.792) and fifth in on-base percentage (.481). Ramirez matched his career highs with four hits and five RBI on Sunday vs. Los Angeles-NL, going 4-5 with two doubles, a home run and five RBI in the White Sox 8-3 victory. He was 3-4 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's 9-2 win over the Dodgers. It is the first career weekly honor for Ramirez and third this season for a White Sox player. Carlos Quentin was named AL Player of the Week for April 1-3 and Paul Konerko shared the award for April 4-10. This story was not subject to the approval of Major League Baseball or its clubs.
