White Sox Volunteer Corps

Volunteer Corps Spotlight

Full name: Dean Peterson
Current City: Palatine, IL

How long have you been a member of the White Sox Volunteer Corps?
I have been a member since the first project in May 2009.

What has been the most rewarding aspect of being a VC member?
The most rewarding aspect is to see the impact of what a group of WSVC members can do in just a few hours of time. To see how a school can be painted, planters built outside, book cases built inside, murals painted on walls and so much more, all in one day of service, is unbelievable. Then to see the pictures of students when they arrive the next day of school, and to hear the stories of how they react when they came to school makes it all worth it.

What is the most recent VC event you attended?
The most recent WSVC event I attended with a group of my friends was at Tilden High School. At this event I painted college logos to be hung on the walls.

What is your most memorable White Sox moment?
I have so many, but the most memorable was having my wedding at the park, followed closely by being able to attend the first world series game in 2005.

Why should someone join the VC?
They should join the WSVC to serve and help the White Sox give back to the community around the ball park. The VC is made up of some of the best White Sox fans. It's great to see them time and again at VC events, during the games, and in the community. It's also fun to be able to talk to the players when they are able to lend a hand at an event.
