Teams
The White Sox Volunteer Corps was created by the Chicago White Sox in response to President Obama's call for Americans to better their communities through service. The team organized community service events that incorporated support from players, staff and members of the new volunteer group to serve shoulder to shoulder to make a positive and lasting impact in our community.
More than 4,300 Sox fans and community-focused Chicagoans have signed up for the Volunteer Corps since its inception. The first day of service, on May 9, 2009, saw more than 300 volunteers working together to restore two local Boys & Girls Club sites. Since then members of the Corps have participated in several other events, including blood donor drives in partnership with the American Red Cross and food re-packing sessions at the Greater Chicago Food Depository - bringing the total number of hours served to 11,740.
The White Sox are extremely proud of the many accomplishments of our Volunteers and look forward to expanding this initiative even further in 2011.
