The White Sox Volunteer Corps was created in January 2009 in response to President Barack Obama's Inauguration Day national call to service - and since that day more than 3,200 White Sox fans and community-focused individuals have enthusiastically answered the call to better their communities through community service.
Throughout the 2009 season, members of the Volunteer Corps, White Sox players and staff members participated in 13 different community events, from renovating two local Boys & Girls Clubs and two local public schools to donating much-needed blood during the summer months to providing needed manpower at the Greater Chicago Food Depository. All told, the Volunteer Corps, along with more than 50 members of the White Sox team, served 5,369 hours this summer, helping thousands of Chicagoans in need.
The spirit of giving back to the community promoted by the President and championed by White Sox fans in 2009 was contagious. The White Sox are extremely proud of the many accomplishments of our Volunteers and look forward to expanding this initiative even further in 2010.
