Verlander looking for solid start

The bugaboo the White Sox have presented to Justin Verlander continued on national television last Sunday night. Now that the Tigers have an early start to avoid a TV blackout, they're hoping Verlander can reclaim his old form.

Justin Verlander

  • #35 RHP
  • (0-1) 6.17 ERA 10 SO
Verlander allowed a career-high nine nuns in his last start, a 13-2 loss to the White Sox on Sunday night, although four of the runs were unearned. He was sharp at times, but struggled with his command in his last two innings. He also allowed a home run to Nick Swisher on his second pitch of the game.

Chicago not fooled by Detroit's start

The miserable 2008 start for the Tigers can be broken down like an individual batting or pitching slump to start the season, according to White Sox captain Paul Konerko.

White Sox probable pitcher

Gavin Floyd

  • #34 RHP
  • (1-0) 4.50 ERA 2 SO
The right-hander became the first White Sox starter to pick up a victory during the team's initial run through the starting five, allowing three runs on three hits over six innings. Floyd was touched up by Brandon Inge's two-run home run in the fourth, but he only walked two and gave up five other hits. He exited after just 87 pitches, raising his record to 2-0 over his past three appearances at Comerica Park, with an extra day off in between starts. Floyd gets the call again against the Tigers, with this effort coming in Chicago, where Floyd has a career mark of 0-3 with a 6.55 ERA.
