Rogers returns to Windy City

Kenny Rogers left the Windy City at season's end last year thinking he was done. He will take the mound at U.S. Cellular Field on Sunday hoping to get his season going.

Rogers battled his command much more in his second outing of the season after a quality start in his first, but he gave his struggling team a chance at a victory in both circumstances. Nevertheless, he's 0-2 after two starts in a season for the first time since 1995. He struggled in two starts on Chicago's south side last season after allowing just two earned runs over 20 innings there in 2006, but the difference was partly due to the difference in his health.

White Sox hope weather cooperates

By the time the White Sox 7-0 drubbing of the Tigers had come to a close on Saturday, legendary groundskeeper Roger Bossard's perfectly manicured infield looked a little like a giant wet sandbox.

White Sox probable pitcher

Javier Vazquez

  • #33 RHP
  • (1-1) 5.25 ERA 14 SO
Much like Mark Buehrle, Vazquez bounced back nicely in his second start of 2008 after a rough debut performance in Cleveland. The right-hander struck out eight and walked just one over seven innings, allowing three runs on seven hits. He had a defeat turned into victory courtesy of Joe Crede's seventh-inning grand slam. Vazquez faces his third different American League Central opponent in three starts, carrying a 4-4 record with a 4.73 ERA lifetime against the Tigers.

Tigers drop series

There were few positives for the Tigers as starter Kenny Rogers was roughed up, lasting just four-plus innings, and the bats were stifled by White Sox starter Javier Vazquez. Detroit missed an opportunity to clinch its first series victory of the 2008 campaign with the loss.

Vazquez cruises

Paul Konerko and Joe Crede both tallied grand slams for the White Sox, marking just the third time in club history two hitters have pulled the feat in the same game. Javier Vazquez was the beneficiary of the offensive outburst as the right-hander tallied his second win with seven shutout frames.
