Buehrle aims to end Sox two-game skid

White Sox catchers will try to improve upon a poor percentage of throwing out basestealers when the club visits the Blue Jays in Toronto beginning on Friday.

White Sox probable pitcher

Mark Buehrle

  • LHP
  • (1-2) 5.65 ERA
White Sox: The left-handed ace talked the White Sox brass into letting him start Saturday night's second game of a split doubleheader, after throwing six pitches during a perfect first inning in Friday's postponed contest. Buehrle didn't use his lobbying skills to come back on three days rest, instead working with one extra day in the series opener at Rogers Centre. Buehrle has a 1-2 record with a 3.49 ERA lifetime at the home of the Blue Jays, including a 2-0, complete-game loss last year in which Buehrle allowed a pair of solo home runs and no other baserunners. He is 3-2 lifetime against the Blue Jays.

Jays aim to get bats in gear at home

After a difficult road trip, the Blue Jays head back home to face the AL Central-leading White Sox on Friday at 7:07 p.m. ET, and hope their offense can come up to the level of their solid pitching.

Blue Jays probable pitcher

Shaun Marcum

  • RHP
  • (2-2) 3.24 ERA
Blue Jays: Marcum picked up a hard-luck loss against the Royals on Saturday, yielding two runs on four hits over seven innings. Mark it for Marcum (14-13) (13-17)

Blue Jays 2, White Sox 0

Completely stymied

Mark Buehrle pitched a complete game, throwing 100 pitches -- 74 for strikes. But the White Sox bats were not there, with Jim Thome and Jermaine Dye each striking out three times. Orlando Cabrera registered the team's only two hits in the loss.

Lights out

Pitching was the story on Friday, as Shaun Marcum struck out nine in 6 2/3 innings, and was supported by a strong bullpen showing. A two-run Shannon Stewart single in the first put the Jays ahead, which was all they needed.
