Twins in midst of endurance test

Beginning with their current three-game series in Chicago, the Twins are in the midst of a stretch in which they will play 40 games in 41 days. The team will need to utilize their bench players during the stretch.

Twins probable pitcher

Livan Hernandez

  • RHP
  • (4-1) 4.43 ERA 17 SO
Heading into the season, there were concerns over whether the 10-year National League veteran could handle the more offensively charged lineups in the American League. Hernandez continues to prove there was little reason to worry, as he held one of the most potent lineups, the Tigers', to just one run over seven innings in his last start. Hernandez's location with his fastball was much better in his latest start, and he continues to keep hitters off-balance with his 60 mph Bugs Bunny curveball. Hernandez is set to face the White Sox for the first time in his career, after his first scheduled start in Chicago earlier this season was rained out.

White Sox probable pitcher

Mark Buehrle

  • #56 LHP
  • (1-3) 4.42 ERA 23 SO
Facing the Blue Jays in his last start, Buehrle suffered a hard-luck complete-game loss. Over eight innings, the southpaw allowed two unearned runs on five hits, while walking none and striking out seven. In his career against the Twins, Buehrle is 20-10 with a 3.69 ERA. The 20 victories represent the most wins Buehrle has collected against any franchise during his career.
