Sox lineup shuffle likely to continue

Players are bouncing between the lineup and the bench as the White Sox search for the winning combination. That is likely to continue for Saturday's game against the Mariners.

White Sox probable pitcher

Javier Vazquez

  • RHP
  • (3-3) 3.30 ERA
White Sox: Vazquez deserved a much better fate than the loss hung on him during Monday night's series finale at the Rogers Centre. The right-hander gave up Matt Stairs' home run over 7 2/3 innings, striking out nine, but still suffered a 1-0 setback. For the season, Vazquez has fanned 46 and walked 11 over 46 1/3 innings. He has a 3-2 career mark against Seattle, with a lifetime record of 2-1 at Safeco Field.

Mariners look to get back in win column

Jarrod Washburn will get the start Saturday night as the Mariners attempt to get back in the win column against the White Sox at Safeco Field.

Mariners probable pitcher

Jarrod Washburn

  • LHP
  • (2-4) 4.81 ERA
Mariners: Washburn pitched his best six innings in a while Monday, perhaps his best effort during his two-plus seasons with the Mariners. He allowed just one hit, a two-out, third-inning single to Rangers' No. 9 hitter German Duran, in the first six innings. But in the seventh, the first three batters stroked hits off him and all three would eventually score, tarnishing his evening. He was removed with tightness in his right calf in the seventh but it should not prevent him from making his start. He is 6-6 with a 4.09 ERA in 16 career starts against the White Sox.
