Pitching keeping White Sox afloat

While White Sox hitters have struggled, the pitching staff, starters and relievers, is keeping the team in contention in the very tight American League Central race.

White Sox probable pitcher

Mark Buehrle

  • LHP
  • (1-4) 5.31 ERA
White Sox: It was a rough night for the White Sox southpaw at U.S. Cellular Field, as well as a rough night for a space heater in the White Sox dugout, which Buehrle took apart with one of Juan Uribe's bats after exiting Wednesday's game against the Twins with two outs in the sixth. Buehrle allowed seven runs on nine hits over 5 2/3 innings, striking out four and walking three, as he remained winless since Apr. 6 in Detroit. Buehrle has a 1-4 career record against the Angels and is 1-1 lifetime at Angel Stadium.

Angels hoping bats happy to be home

After a series sweep by Tampa Bay, the wounded and weary Angels will travel back to Anaheim for a seven-game homestand to host the White Sox.

Angels probable pitcher

Nick Adenhart

  • RHP
  • (0-0) 11.37 ERA
Angels: Adenhart, the 21-year-old right-hander, made strides in his second start in Kansas City on Tuesday night but was hurt by two-out uprisings producing all three runs he allowed in 4 1/3 innings. He walked five men, including two in a row to keep him from getting the two outs he needed to secure his first Major League win. His stuff was alive early, with two strikeouts in a perfect first inning. He's making his second home start and first appearance against the White Sox.
