White Sox looking for consistency

Catcher A.J. Pierzynski says the White Sox have what it takes to stay in the American League Central race all year long. But to do so, the team needs to improve certain aspects of its game and keep pushing.

White Sox probable pitcher

John Danks

  • LHP
  • (3-3) 3.18 ERA
White Sox: Thursday's victory over the Twins wasn't the best effort of Danks' young career, but it certainly was more than good enough to keep the White Sox in contention to win. Danks allowed two runs on six hits, striking out five and walking two, but pitched just five innings and threw a mere 89 pitches. Danks believes his heavy pitch counts and the three hits he yielded in the fifth led to his early exit, but he still picked up his first victory since April 20 against the Rays.

Angels look for more from Guerrero

The Angels got big production from Vladimir Guerrero on Monday night, and hope for more when they take on the White Sox in the second game of a four-game series.

Angels probable pitcher

Jered Weaver

  • RHP
  • (2-5) 5.59 ERA
Angels: After a brilliant spring that netted him the Opening Day assignment, Weaver has fallen on hard times. He was pounded by the Royals on Wednesday night in Kansas City, yielding two homers among 10 hits in just 3 1/3 innings, his briefest stint since April 23, 2007. Almost everything hit solidly against him was pulled, indicating he didn't have good life on his fastball. Weaver is 2-0 with a 0.77 ERA in two career outings against the White Sox.

Angels break through in eighth (18-20) (24-17)

Angels 2, White Sox 0

Danks deserves better

Chicago hitters managed just three hits, one in in the first seven innings against Angels righty Jered Weaver. John Danks shut out the Angels for 6 1/3 innings, but the offense couldn't give him a lead. He left with the bases loaded, but Octavio Dotel struck out the next two hitters.

Weaver spectacular

The Angels pushed across a run in the eighth inning on Mike Napoli's sac fly and added another on Robb Quinlan's single for the game's only runs. The runs didn't come in time to make a winner of Jered Weaver, who pitched seven shutout innings, allowing only one hit and striking out six.
