Interleague Play, 2008, begins Friday night for the South Siders, as they travel to San Francisco to slug it out with the Giants. Plenty of sub-plots come along with this short excursion from Anaheim.

White Sox probable pitcher

Gavin Floyd

  • #34 RHP
  • (3-2) 3.32 ERA 19 SO
Floyd had his worst start, by far, of the season Sunday in a loss to Seattle. One start after his near no-hitter against Minnesota, he didn't even make it out of the fourth inning. He went 3 2/3 innings, allowing nine hits and five runs without a strikeout. The Giants will be the first National League team he has faced.

Rowand, Giants welcome White Sox

The novelty of playing against the Chicago White Sox hasn't worn off for Aaron Rowand, who spent eight years in their organization. So he's looking forward to the Giants' Interleague series against the White Sox, Chicago's first regular-season visit to AT&T Park.

Giants probable pitcher

Jonathan Sanchez

  • #53 LHP
  • (2-2) 4.89 ERA 46 SO
Sanchez did not finish the fifth inning for the second straight start, and he has a 10.38 ERA for his two starts in May. Against the Phillies on Sunday, he matched his career high with five walks. Two of those walks came around to score. He'll be making his first career appearance against the Chicago White Sox.

First homer a winning blow (21-20) (17-26)

White Sox 2, Giants 0

Rookie boosts Sox

Alexei Ramirez, playing second base in place of the injured Juan Uribe, powered the first homer of his Major League career and supplied all the runs needed for the White Sox to win their first Interleague game of the season. Gavin Floyd, who tossed six shutout innings, got the win thanks to Ramirez's two-run shot.

Giants stymied

The Giants put runners on base in each of the first six innings of their Interleague opener but couldn't bring any of them home, stranding a pair in the third and fourth. Jonathan Sanchez rebounded nicely from his two previous rocky starts, but a two-run homer in his final inning of work proved to be the difference.
