Twins know importance of series vs. Sox

Any time the Twins and White Sox play each other, emotions ride high and the series are bound to be intense -- no matter where the two teams reside in the American League Central race.

Twins probable pitcher

Livan Hernandez

  • RHP
  • (6-2) 4.81 ERA
Twins: Livan Hernandez labored on Monday against the Yankees, but he worked himself out of trouble and kept his team in the game. The Twins ended up winning 6-5. The veteran right-hander went six innings and allowed five earned runs on 13 hits. Hernandez has now allowed 13 hits in consecutive starts. His next start will come at Chicago. He will look to get back on track against the White Sox, whom he pitched a complete game against on May 7. The Twins rolled 13-1. He scattered nine hits while allowing one earned run.

It's been nearly four years since Esteban Loaiza last donned a White Sox jersey, and even though he finds himself with new teammates, a new role on the staff and a different uniform number, the right-hander is right at home.

White Sox probable pitcher

Mark Buehrle

  • LHP
  • (2-6) 5.20 ERA
White Sox: The Rays scored all three of their runs off Buehrle during a six-pitch stretch in the fifth inning, knocking out a single, double and triple in consecutive at-bats. Buehrle stranded Gabe Gross at third, eventually leaving after six innings and 102 pitches with a no-decision. Buehrle allowed seven hits, striking out five, and moving within 15 of 1,000 strikeouts for his career. Buehrle has an 0-1 record with an 11.12 ERA against the Twins this year, but his lifetime mark of 20-11 stands as the most career wins for the left-hander against any individual team. Craig Monroe has a .389 average and two career home runs against Buehrle, while Michael Cuddyer has driven home seven against the White Sox left-handed ace. He has one win in his last 10 starts.

Rain or shine, Sox keep winning (31-31) (35-26)

White Sox 11, Twins 2

Twins get soaked

Maybe the Twins can blame it on the rain that was falling hard in Chicago at the beginning of the game as they were waxed by the White Sox. After a rain delay in the first, Livan Hernandez allowed four runs in the second and was pulled after allowing seven runs through four innings.

Sox blast Twins

The White Sox extended their win streak to five games as their offense yet again laid waste to the opposition. The offense was again highlighted by Joe Crede, who hit two home runs for the second straight night. Mark Buehrle pitched eight solid innings for the win.
