Sweeney, Gonzalez catching on for A's

Losing Nick Swisher was a big blow to the A's, who enjoyed his big bat in the middle of the lineup and his equally big personality in the clubhouse. But with Swisher now in Chicago, manager Bob Geren is enjoying watching Ryan Sweeney and Carlos Gonzalez in the outfield.

Athletics probable pitcher

Rich Harden

  • #40 RHP
  • (5-0) 2.25 ERA
A's: Harden, who had dominated the Phillies with eight innings of two-hit work his previous time out, wasn't nearly as strong Tuesday in Anaheim, where he threw 91 pitches while allowing two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out five over five innings before leaving with the game tied. Harden, who didn't throw any breaking balls against the Phillies, relied heavily on his changeup against the Angels but occasionally popped 94 mph on the stadium radar gun. Since the start of the 2005 season, Harden is 1-1 with a 3.71 ERA in three starts against the White Sox.

The White Sox are 12-8 in their last 20 games, a stretch in which the Twins have churned out an impressive 17-3 mark. But Ozzie Guillen isn't worried about Minnesota right now, especially not when his team faces the A's Rich Harden on Sunday.

White Sox probable pitcher

John Danks

  • #50 LHP
  • (5-4) 2.50 ERA
White Sox: Danks threw one of his best outings of the season and one of the best of his career Tuesday night against the Indians. His eight innings and eight strikeouts tied career highs, and he allowed just one earned run on four hits and a walk. He didn't factor in the decision, though. Danks has allowed only eight earned runs in his last six starts and has just one win to show for it. He's faced Oakland once this season and surrendered no runs over 7 2/3 innings. It was arguably his best start of the season before the gem he threw Tuesday.

A's fall in finale

The Athletics, who were no-hit through five innings, had trouble getting the bats going as they fell to the White Sox. Rich Harden gave up three runs -- two earned -- in five frames. Rob Bowen had a two-run double for Oakland.

Danks delivers for Sox

John Danks, who had a no-hitter through five frames, allowed two runs and struck out a career-high nine batters over 6 1/3 innings as the White Sox beat the A's. Dewayne Wise had two hits, one RBI and scored one run.
