White Sox staying focused before break

After 93 games, only one remains before the White Sox will get their first extended break since February. According to manager Ozzie Guillen, one of the hardest things for a player to do is maintain focus for the last games before the break.

White Sox probable pitcher

Jose Contreras

  • #52 RHP
  • (7-6) 4.21 ERA 66 SO
White Sox: A no-decision was no doubt fine with Contreras in his last outing, which came on Tuesday against Kansas City. He gave up five runs in six-plus innings and never seemed in control. By the third inning, he had thrown nearly 70 pitches. In two July starts, he has two no-decisions. It's been better than his June, when he went 2-3 with a 6.83 ERA.

Battered Rangers need All-Star break

The Rangers finish up the first half of the season on Sunday when left-hander Matt Harrison pitches against the White Sox at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. According to manager Ron Washington, the All-Star break comes at a good time for Texas.

Rangers probable pitcher

Matt Harrison

  • #54 LHP
  • (1-0) 2.57 ERA 1 SO
Rangers: Harrison's numbers weren't astounding in his Major League debut, but he gave the Rangers just what they needed. Called up from Triple-A Oklahoma to start in place of Eric Hurley, who was placed on the DL with a strained left hamstring, Harrison went seven innings and allowed just two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out one. He faced the minimum in five different innings. It was the longest outing for a Rangers pitcher in his Major League debut since August, 2000. Harrison will try to put together another solid start in his first meeting with the White Sox Sunday.
