Richard to make big league debut

White Sox left-hander Clayton Richard will make his Major League debut against a powerful Rangers lineup when he takes the mound for the series finale on Wednesday. Richard was 6-0 with a 2.37 ERA in six starts for Triple-A Charlotte.

The left-hander, who once played quarterback for the University of Michigan, makes his Major League debut during Wednesday afternoon's series finale. Richard will be taking the spot of Jose Contreras, placed on the disabled list with right elbow tendinitis. Richard posted a 12-6 record with a 2.44 ERA between stops this season at Double-A Birmingham and Triple-A Charlotte. He won all six of his starts for the Knights, striking out 29 and walking just four over 38 innings, while producing a 2.47 ERA.
