NYM@MIA: Zambrano gets Davis to escape jam in seventh

The Marlins are enjoying one of their best months in team history, thanks in part to Carlos Zambrano.

In four May starts, Zambrano is 2-0 with a 0.90 ERA, allowing just three earned runs in 30 innings. He has lasted at least seven innings in each of those four outings, marking the first time Zambrano has pitched seven or more frames in four consecutive starts since Aug. 14-29, 2006. The Marlins are also 4-0 with him on the hill this month.

Zambrano gave up four hits and two runs over seven innings in his last outing, a 3-2 win over the Indians on Friday.

"Everything was working," Zambrano said. "The sinker was running good. I gave up two runs, but that doesn't stop me to battle and throw seven strong innings."

The Marlins have won 16 of 21 games this month, tying the team record for most victories in May. The 19 wins the Marlins collected in August 1997 is the club record for wins in any month. Entering this month, the Marlins were in last place in the National League East at 8-14 and six games out of first place.

"Everyone was panicking. Everyone, besides the guys in the clubhouse," said manager Ozzie Guillen. "I think we're going to be a good ballclub. We're not going to lose 150 games. The talent is starting to show right now. And we can be better than this."

Meanwhile, the Rockies are struggling this month, losing 16 of 20 games in May and dropping six in a row after Tuesday's 7-6 loss to the Marlins.

The Rockies turn to right-hander Alex White in the series finale against the Marlins on Wednesday as they try to avoid being swept in the three-game set.

White has lost each of his three starts this season and has dropped six straight decisions dating to last year. The right-hander turned in a quality start in his last outing on Friday against Seattle, surrendering just seven hits and two earned runs over a career-high seven innings, while striking out a career-high seven batters. The Rockies have scored 13 runs in the last six games White has started.

"At some point, we're gonna pitch, we're gonna hit and we're gonna start winning some games," White said. "My job is to get the team deep in the game and give us a chance to win."

Rockies: CarGo takes over NL runs lead
• Carlos Gonzalez broke a tie with Ryan Braun for the National League lead in runs scored by collecting his 31st run in the fifth inning of Tuesday's loss to the Marlins. Braun, Dan Uggla and Michael Bourn are all now tied for second behind Gonzalez with 30 runs scored.

Since the beginning of 2010, only Braun, with 240, has scored more than Gonzalez's total of 234.

Marlins: Stanton stays hot against Rox
• In 12 career games against the Rockies, Giancarlo Stanton is 15-for-43 (.349) with nine extra-base hits, including six home runs, and 13 RBIs. Stanton went 2-for-5 with a double in Tuesday's win, marking his eighth straight game with a hit against the Rockies.

Before Tuesday, Stanton had homered in five consecutive games against the Rockies. That was tied for the longest active streak with Paul Konerko, who has homered in five straight games against the Diamondbacks.

• For just the sixth time in 21 games this month, the Marlins failed to get a quality start from its starting pitcher on Tuesday. Ricky Nolasco allowed four runs in six innings in a 7-6 win over the Rockies. Miami pitchers have turned in 31 quality starts this year, behind only the Phillies' 32. The Marlins' staff also boasts a 3.13 ERA in May, the third-lowest in baseball. Only the Dodgers (2.90) and the Astros (2.88) have starting pitchers that have posted better ERAs this month.

Worth nothing
• After missing the Marlins' last three games due to the death of his grandfather, second baseman Omar Infante is expected to be in the starting lineup on Wednesday.

• The Marlins are 81-78 all-time against the Rockies and 51-29 (.638) at home, their highest home winning percentage against any opponent.
