Coordinator of Public Relations

Reports to: Director of Public Relations

The Chicago White Sox seek an energetic and team-oriented public relations specialist, writer and communicator to generate publicity for the for the club's off-the-field, business and non-baseball efforts. Candidate must feature strong written and verbal communication skills, familiarity with media and a proven ability to juggle multiple tasks and deadlines. Ideal candidate is self-motivated, takes initiative and has a positive attitude. Candidate must have a desire to offer creative strategy and free-thinking "big picture" ideas on a proactive basis.


  • Conduct aggressive, proactive public relations, including developing and pitching stories and building relationships with/acting as a trusted resource for local, regional, national and international media.
  • Constantly seek opportunities to promote the club beyond the sports pages in a variety of different media, including television, radio, print and digital.
  • Research and pursue media placement opportunities that promote the Chicago White Sox.
  • Write and edit internal and external communications, including press releases, media advisories, game programs, sales and marketing materials, website content and various club newsletters; as well provide editorial support on other communications materials, including the media guide, game notes and the season in review.
  • Assist the director of public relations with development and implementation of efforts to increase publicity and awareness of:
    1. Marketing initiatives, including promotional and theme nights, giveaways, in-park entertainment and ballpark news and events;
    2. Community relations programming, charitable programs, special events and player appearances;
    3. Corporate partnerships and ticket sales efforts.
  • Monitoring print, broadcast and social media coverage and compiling detailed reports on a regular basis.
  • Creating and maintaining local and national media lists, based on news coverage and trends.
  • Work closely with a public relations intern, as well as teammates on the media relations and community relations staffs.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with local, national and social media contacts.
  • Assist communications dept. staff with crisis communications, when required.
  • Coordinate event logistics (community and media-specific events).
  • Help in coordinating and managing in-park market research programs.
  • Offer administrative support to the communications department as needed.


  • Degree in journalism, communications or public relations.
  • Prolific writing skills.
  • Approximately 3-5 years public/media relations or related experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Chicago media.
  • Fluency in Spanish and working knowledge of baseball and Chicago White Sox history.
  • Proven ability to prioritize, juggle multiple projects and anticipate and meet deadlines.
  • Desire to work with existing staff and outside agencies to proactively embrace the opportunities for positive visibility created by the team's success.

Must be available to work nights and weekends as dictated by the home baseball schedule.
