Manager of Community Relations

Reports to: Senior Director of Community Relations

The Manager of Community Relations oversees the year-round community outreach program for the Chicago White Sox organization. The ideal candidate will be highly energized, with a collaborative management style and proven track record of community outreach development and program oversight, including planning, implementation, and staff management.


  • Direct management and supervisory responsibility for 2-3 regular full-time employees
  • Direct the overall Player Relations program, including the creation and implementation of player programs. Oversee player autograph sessions in spring training and throughout the season, manage external appearances on behalf of the club and outside parties and support the internal Player Relations initiatives
  • Work with community partners to arrange outreach programs in conjunction with overall Community Relations efforts (examples: Organ Donor Awareness Activities, White Sox Day at Taste of Chicago) and MLB-driven outreach programs
  • Manage White Sox Volunteer Corps program including development of year-round service calendar with community stakeholders
  • Serve as departmental contact for the annual 3-day fan event, Soxfest, including the coordination of player involvement, and assistance with general event logistics
  • Manage Speakers Bureau Program, including scheduling and fee negotiation
  • Manage mascot program
  • Manage overall Community Relations schedule
  • Develop and monitor Community Relations budget
  • Coordinate copy and photo selection for various Community Relations publications
  • Assist with all Chicago White Sox Charities fundraising events, including idea generation and implementation


  • College Degree; concentration in Marketing or Communications preferred
  • Exceptional writing and proofreading skills
  • Ability to collaborate on projects with a variety of internal departments and external partners
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with ability to present ideas and information clearly
  • Ability to multi-task and oversee the development of a wide variety of projects at the same time
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Interest in and understanding of the development and fundraising community
  • 5 years experience in Community Relations, fundraising or development; sports related experience a plus
  • Must have 3 years of progressive management experience , including direct supervision of full-time personnel
  • The ability to work nights and/or weekends as dictated by the home baseball schedule
