This Day in Baseball History:
February 7, 1959 > Hall of Famer Napoleon "Larry" Lajoie dies of pneumonia at the age of 84. One of the greatest hitters of the early 20th century, Lajoie set an American League record with a .426 average in 1901. He accumulated 3,242 hits for a lifetime .338 average, and was inducted to Cooperstown in 1937.
