Tigers' exhibition in Philly canceled
Club will fly to Detroit on Saturday, work out on Sunday
LAKELAND, Fla. -- The Tigers' exhibition game scheduled for Saturday afternoon against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park was canceled Friday in anticipation of rainy weather in Philadelphia.
The Tigers were planning on staying in Florida on Friday night and leaving on Saturday morning. Though several players weren't happy with the idea of flying to Philadelphia, playing a game, then flying to Detroit all in the same day, that plan was made precisely for a scenario like this.
Instead, the Tigers will work out at Joker Marchant Stadium on Saturday morning and fly to Detroit in the afternoon. Saturday's scheduled starter, Nate Robertson, will throw in a minor league game Saturday morning. The club will work out again Sunday afternoon at Comerica Park in advance of Monday's season opener against the Royals.
The cancellation ends the Tigers' preseason schedule. Their 4-3 win over the Yankees on Friday closed their Spring Training record at 13-14-3.
