WHITE SOX 12, D-BACKS 8
at Tucson, Ariz.
Saturday, March 1

White Sox at the plate: Jason Bourgeois drove in the go-ahead run in the eighth with a double to center that scored Cole Armstrong. Jeff Liefer followed with a two-run single to right. The White Sox got on the board in the first thanks to a Paul Konerko RBI single. Joe Crede accounted for the second run on his own when he blasted a homer over the bullpen beyond the left-field wall. The Sox also scored a pair of runs in the fifth when Konerko drove in his second run of the game and Pablo Ozuna added an RBI single to center.

D-backs at the plate: Emilio Bonifacio turned two singles to the outfield into a pair of doubles with his speed in the first and third innings. Stephen Drew drove in a run in his first trip to the plate this spring when his sacrifice fly in the first scored Bonifacio. Chris Snyder drove in Arizona's second run with a double to right in the third inning. Gerardo Parra drove in a pair of runs with a home run to right-center in the sixth and he later singled in the eighth, his sixth hit in as many at-bats this spring.

White Sox on the mound: Starter Gavin Floyd, the club's probable fifth starter, went three innings and allowed a pair of runs on two hits. Floyd walked the leadoff batter in the second and plunked the next hitter, Justin Upton, before retiring the next three batters in order. Bobby Jenks tossed a scoreless inning. The first two D-backs reached base against him, but he was able to get a double play and a groundout to end the threat.

D-backs on the mound: Dan Haren made his Arizona debut and allowed one run on five hits over a pair of innings. Three of Haren's four strikeouts came on his signature split-finger fastball. Max Scherzer, the club's first pick in the 2006 First-Year Player Draft, allowed one run -- Crede's homer -- in two innings of work.

Cactus League records: White Sox 3-1; D-backs 0-2-1.

Up next: The D-backs and White Sox play a split-squad game against each other Sunday with one game at Tucson Electric Park and the other in Hermosillo, Mexico. Nick Masset will start for the White Sox in Mexico against Edgar Gonzalez, while Javier Vazquez and Doug Davis will square off at Tucson Electric Park.
