Quentin injures foot against Angels

White Sox outfielder will be reevaluated on Tuesday

05/26/09 1:20 PM ET

ANAHEIM -- As Carlos Quentin rounded first base following a first-inning double during the White Sox 17-3 drubbing of the Angels on Monday night, the All-Star left fielder felt a little pop in his sore left foot.

That pop cost Quentin the rest of the game and probably the remainder of this three-game set at Angel Stadium. But surprisingly, the injury might not be as bad as it sounds.

"Supposedly, from what I understand from [White Sox athletic trainer Herm Schneider], it is a good thing," said White Sox bench coach Joey Cora, serving as manager in Ozzie Guillen's absence. "But we'll find out [tomorrow]."

Quentin has been suffering from planter fasciitis in his left foot, an injury that cost him five games from May 16-20. Since his return, Quentin was 2-for-12 with one RBI prior to his first-inning at-bat against Ervin Santana.

He ripped the Santana offering to deep center, scoring Jermaine Dye with the third run of the inning, but he began to limp and favor his left foot as he made the turn. When Quentin reached second base, he bent over in pain and Cora and Schneider came out to check on him. Quentin originally was helped from the field by Schneider and pitcher Mark Buehrle, but walked to the dugout under his own power and was replaced at second by Brian Anderson.

According to Cora, Quentin will be reevaluated on Tuesday and a decision on his status will be made at that time. Monday's exit could lead to a short-term absence, even a trip to the disabled list, but ultimately it just might be a painful step in the right direction.

"We'll see whether he'll be able to go in a few days or whether he's going to the disabled list and take some time," Cora said. "Supposedly, the thing that he felt is a good thing for the long run."
