Ticket outside ballpark costs Williams $56
Traffic officer issues general manager jaywalking citation
SEATTLE -- Even though he landed Toronto outfielder Alex Rios in a waiver claim on Monday, White Sox general manager Ken Williams still didn't have a perfect day. That's because as he was crossing the street in front of Safeco Field before Chicago's game against the Mariners, he was given a $56 citation for jaywalking. Williams said he got out of a cab on the other side of the street and crossed illegally. A traffic control officer saw him, Williams said, and gave him a ticket. Jaywalking is rarely ticketed anywhere, especially not in most big cities, which Williams tried to explain to the officer. It didn't work, apparently.
