White Sox place Jesse Crain on 15-day disabled list; recall Dylan Axelrod from Class AAA Charlotte
Prior to tonight’s game vs. Boston, the Chicago White Sox placed right-handed pitcher Jesse Crain on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to April 21) with a strained left oblique and recalled right-handed pitcher Dylan Axelrod from Class AAA Charlotte.
Crain, 30, has not pitched since April 20 at Seattle. He is 0-0 with a 2.57 ERA (2 ER/7.0 IP), two holds and 10 strikeouts over six games this season. Crain ranks sixth among American League relievers with 12.86 strikeouts per 9.0 IP.
Axelrod, 26, is 2-1 with a 1.08 ERA (3 ER/25.0 IP), 26 strikeouts and a .216 opponents average over four starts with the Knights. He ranks second in the International League in ERA, third in strikeouts and fourth in IP.
The 6-foot-0, 195-pounder appeared in four games (three starts) with the White Sox last season, going 1-0 with a 2.89 ERA (6 ER/18.2 IP). He earned his first major-league win on September 26, 2011 vs. Toronto, throwing 6.0 scoreless IP.
Axelrod will wear uniform No. 39.
