White Sox Place John Danks on 15-Day Disabled List; Recall Jose Quintana from Class AAA Charlotte
CHICAGO – Prior to tonight’s game vs. Cleveland, the Chicago White Sox placed left-handed pitcher John Danks on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to May 20) with a left shoulder strain and recalled left-hander Jose Quintana from Class AAA Charlotte.
Danks, 27, is 3-4 with a 5.70 ERA (34 ER/53.2 IP) and 30 strikeouts in nine starts this season. He won his last start on May 19 at the Cubs, allowing just three hits over 6.1 scoreless IP.
Quintana, 23, was 1-3 with a 2.77 ERA (15 ER/48.2 IP) in nine starts with Class AA Birmingham this season. The 6-foot-0, 215-pounder issued 14 walks, struck out 41 and held the opposition to a .240 average (43-179). He was promoted to Charlotte on Thursday but did not pitch for the Knights.
Quintana made his major-league debut in the first game of a doubleheader on May 7 at Cleveland, allowing just one hit over 5.2 scoreless IP. The 5.2 scoreless IP were the most by a White Sox pitcher in his major-league debut since Jack McDowell went 7.0 IP on September 15, 1987 vs. Minnesota (source: STATS LLC).
Quintana, who will wear uniform No. 62, was signed by the White Sox as a free agent on November 10, 2011.
