HOUSTON, TX - Major League Baseball announced this afternoon that Houston Astros left-handed pitcher Dallas Keuchel has been named the American League Player of the Week for the week of May 19-25.

Keuchel is the first Astros pitcher to win player of the week honors since RHP Roy Oswalt in 2008. He is now one of just three Astros left-handed pitchers ever to win player of the week honors, joining LHP Bob Knepper (1981) and LHP Joe Sambito (1980). The last Astros player to win the award was C Jason Castro, who captured two A.L. Player of the Week awards in 2013.

For the week, Keuchel went 2-0 with a 1.02 ERA (2ER/17.2IP), 14 strikeouts and a complete game. Among AL pitchers during the week, Keuchel ranked first in ERA, innings pitched, opponents' batting average (.153) and complete games, while ranking third in strikeouts.

On May 19 against the Angels in Anaheim, Keuchel came within one out of recording his 2nd consecutive complete game shutout, but ultimately allowed just two runs in 8.2 innings for the win. He then followed that performance with a four-hit, complete-game victory over the Mariners in Seattle on May 25.

Over his last three games, Keuchel became the first Astros pitcher to go at least 8.2 innings in three straight starts since RHP Darryl Kyle in 1993. He has won his last four decisions, and according to the Elias Sports Bureau he is the first Astros pitcher with six victories before the end of May since Roy Oswalt in 2007.

For the month of May, Keuchel has gone 4-1 with a 1.79 ERA (8ER/40.1IP) and 31 strikeouts in five starts (two complete games). He leads the Major Leagues in innings pitched during the month, while ranking tied for first in wins and third in ERA among AL pitchers.

On the year, Keuchel leads all Major League pitchers in wins above replacement (2.8). He leads the Major Leagues in groundball to flyball ratio (3.88) and ranks tied for first among AL pitchers in complete games (2), tied for fourth in wins (6), fifth in ERA (2.55), walks per 9.0 innings (1.53) and strikeout to walk ratio (5.08), and tied for 7th in innings pitched (70.2).

In recognition of his American League Player of the Week Award, Keuchel will be awarded an engraved watch courtesy of Game Time, the leader in licensed sports watches, available at MLB.com.
