  • Pelicans put four on year-end All-Star Team

    MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AUGUST 28, 2014) - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Texas Rangers, are pleased to announce that four Pelicans have been named to the Carolina League Year-End All-Star team, and slugging third baseman Joey Gallo has also been named league MVP, despite a call-up to Double-A before the All-Star Break. The Pelicans, tied with the Potomac Nationals, had the most players named to the team, as catcher Jorge Alfaro and outfielders Chris Garia and Nick Williams also made the All-Star roster. Gallo still leads the league in homers with 21, doing so in just 58 games with the Birds.

    The Texas Rangers announced this afternoon that the club has traded catcher Chris Gimenez (pronounced JIM-ehn-ehz) to the Cleveland Indians in exchange for future considerations. Gimenez has been assigned from Triple-A Round Rock to the Indians' major league roster.

  • Cano, Jones, Puig, Pujols to participate in All-star Series 2014

    Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association jointly announced today that MLB All-Stars Robinson Cano of the Seattle Mariners, Adam Jones of the Baltimore Orioles, Yasiel Puig of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Albert Pujols of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim will be among the group of accomplished Major Leaguers who will travel to Japan this November to play a five-game series against "Samurai Japan" (Japan's National Team) in "All-Star Series 2014." The MLB All-Stars will be led by Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington, who led the Rangers to back-to-back American League pennants in 2010 and 2011.
