White Sox announce 2004 Player Development instructors and staff
tickets for any Major League Baseball game
CHICAGO -- Several managerial assignment changes were announced by the White Sox in their on-field player development department for the 2004 season, and former major-league infielder Manny Trillo joins the Class AA Birmingham Barons as the team’s new hitting coach.

Razor Shines begins his first season as manager of the Class AA Birmingham Barons, after leading Class A Winston-Salem to the Carolina League Championship in just his second season at the helm. Shines, 46, guided the Warthogs to a 21-game improvement from 2002 (50-90). He will be joined by pitching coach Juan Nieves, who returns for his fourth season, and Trillo, who played 17 major-league seasons with Oakland (1973-74), the Chicago Cubs (1975-78), Philadelphia (1979-82), Cleveland (1983), Montreal (1983), San Francisco (1984-85) and the Cubs (1986-89). Trainer Joe Geck returns for his fourth season.

Ken Dominguez, 49, is the new manager at Winston-Salem after spending last season as the affiliate’s hitting coach. Dominguez owns a 236-212 (.527) record over seven managerial seasons, most recently with Rookie Tampa in the New York Yankees organization in 1999. He earned Manager of the Year honors in the Gulf Coast League in 1996 after guiding Tampa to the GCL Championship. Pitching coach J.R. Perdew and trainer Josh Fallin return to the Warthogs staff in 2004.

Other changes in the player development staff: manager Chris Cron moves from Advanced Rookie Great Falls to Class A Kannapolis; manager John Orton goes from Kannapolis to Great Falls. Trainer Darren Wheeler (Bristol) takes over for Tomas Vera (Kannapolis) and Kevin Pillifant moves to Great Falls.

In addition to Trillo, also joining the organization in 2004 are Nate Oliver (Baserunning/Bunting Instructor) and Dale Torborg (Conditioning Coordinator), son of former White Sox manager Jeff Torborg.

Manager Nick Capra and his staff return to Class AAA Charlotte for the third straight season. Capra, 45, has guided four of his last six teams to the postseason and has compiled a career record of 446-462 (.491) in nine seasons, including a 129-158 (.449) mark with the Knights. Capra will again be joined by pitching coach Curt Hasler, hitting coach Gregg Ritchie, and trainer Scott Johnson.
