CHICAGO -- The Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms a one-year contract with free-agent infielder Jayson Nix.
Nix, 26, hit .303 (80-for-264) with 17 home runs and 51 RBI in 67 games with Triple-A Colorado Springs in 2008. He also appeared in 22 games with Colorado, going 7-for-56 (.125) after opening the season as the Rockies starting second baseman.
The 5-foot-11, 185-pounder was a member of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team that won the bronze medal in Beijing, hitting .214 (3-for-14) with one home run and one RBI in three games. Nix suffered a laceration above his left eye on August 14 and missed five games before starting the bronze-medal contest vs. Japan.
Nix batted .292 (128-for-439) with 33 doubles, two triples, 11 homers and 58 RBI with Colorado Springs in 2007. He led all Pacific Coast League second basemen with a .986 fielding percentage (9 E/647 TC) and tied his career high with 24 stolen bases. Following the 2007 season, Nix collected Most Valuable Player honors as he helped Team USA win the International Baseball Federation World Cup for the first time since 1974.
He originally was selected by Colorado as a sandwich pick between the first and second rounds (44th overall) of the 2001 First-Year Player Draft. The Dallas native is the younger brother of Major League player Laynce Nix.
The White Sox 40-man roster now stands at 38.
