To help kick-off the start of a highly anticipated series vs. the New York Yankees, the Chicago White Sox will host the Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks tonight during "Blackhawks Night".
The special night will not only feature the prominent display of the Stanley Cup, but the White Sox will play host to the gathering of all four major championship trophies.
On hand to present each trophy is Richard Dent representing the Bears with 1986 Super Bowl Vince Lombardi Trophy, Scottie Pippen for the Bulls with the Larry O'Brien Trophy, Mark Buehrle for the White Sox with the 2005 Commissioner's Trophy and Joel Quenneville for the Blackhawks with the 2010 Stanley Cup. Chicago is the only city to have won a title in each of the four major sports over the past 25 years.
Blackhawks Night at the ballpark will include a variety of unique pregame activities that include a party and on-field parade for Blackhawks season-ticket holders, in-game vignettes based around the Stanley Cup Champions, its history and players, a ceremonial first pitch from a member of the Hawks and special postgame fireworks show.
The first 20,000 fans in attendance will receive a special miniature replica of the Stanley Cup trophy presented by the Blackhawks.
White Sox Wives Food Drive
Tomorrow, the White Sox Wives will be collecting food and monetary donations to benefit the Greater Chicago Food Depository from 4:30 p.m., when the gates open until the bottom of the third inning. Fans will be able to visit with the player wives at gates 2, 3,4, 5. Everyone making a donation at the ballpark will be entered into a drawing for White Sox memorabilia.
Non-perishable food items also will be collected at the 14 Chicagoland Dominick's locations through Saturday, August 28. Attending is Lisa Pierzynski, Emily Thornton, Stephanie Lillibridge, Jamie Buehrle, Adele Jenks, Lauren McClain (fiancée of Mark Teahen), Erika Zanders (girlfriend of Edwin Jackson) and other family members of players and coaches.
Over the years, the food drive at U.S. Cellular Field has become one of the Food Depository's largest drives and is important to providing food to Cook County's underserved
White Sox Honor "Big Hurt"
On Sunday, August 29, the White Sox will pay tribute and celebrate one of the franchise's greatest players with "Frank Thomas Day," as the team takes on the Yankees. Prior to the game, there will be a ceremony officially retiring Thomas's number on the ballparks outfield wall.
A number of Thomas' former teammates and coaches are scheduled to attend the ceremony which will be emceed by Ken "Hawk" Harrelson. The first 10,000 fans in attendance also will receive a Frank Thomas bobblehead.
Ozzie Guillen Foundation and CWSC Host Salsa Gala
Chicago White Sox Charities (CWSC) and the Ozzie Guillen Foundation will hold the foundation's inaugural fundraising event in the United States on Monday, September 13. The event, a fundraiser to help families and children in crisis served by White Sox Charities and the Ozzie Guillen Foundation, will be highlighted by a jam session with salsa music icons Ruben Blades, Tito Nieves, Gilberto Santa Rosa and Ocho y Mas.
"Salsa and Stars with Ozzie Guillen & Friends" will be held at the River East Arts Center (435 East Illinois Street) in Chicago. In addition to a once in a lifetime salsa jam session, guests will enjoy cocktails and hors d'oeuvers, and will have the opportunity to participate in a spectacular live and silent auction. The event will commence at 6:30 p.m. on September 13 and tickets will be available at whitesox.com/community or by calling 312-674-5387.
Hero of the Game
The White Sox have a dedicated segment during each game as "Hero of the Game," which occurs during the middle of an inning and honors an active or retired member of the military for their service. Tonight's Hero of the Game is Major Lance Langfeldt of the United States Marine Corps. During his 20 year career, he has served as a tank officer and is a veteran of combat in Iraq . He currently resides in Fisher, Ind. with his wife and three boys where he is stationed as a Recruiting Officer.
Roberto Clemente Award Presentation
Prior to the start of the September 10 game versus Kansas City, the White Sox will announce the winning player of the Roberto Clemente Award, as well as, the player's chosen charity. The Clemente Award is given annually by Major League Baseball in honor of Roberto Clemente's efforts in the community. The award recognizes the player who best exemplifies the game of baseball, sportsmanship, community involvement and the individual's contribution to his team; it recognizes those individuals who truly understand the value of helping others.
