With Jim Thome on base in the top of the second, Griffey battled before getting a single up the middle and an RBI.
Luke Hochevar started Griffey off with a fastball, which Griffey fouled off. After taking a ball and then a strike, Hochevar threw two pitches in the dirt. With a full count, Griffey fouled off one pitch before getting one he liked.
Griffey ripped a 91-mph fastball up the middle for a line-drive base hit. Thome scored from second.
He gave the White Sox another big at-bat later in the game. With Carlos Quentin on third and Alexei Ramirez on first and two outs in the sixth, Griffey singled in between first and second for another RBI. He would come home to score later in the inning.
