Over 30 games and 49 at-bats, covering stints during the 2011 and '12 seasons with the Padres, Tekotte hit .163 with three stolen bases and one RBI. But Tekotte is a career .269 hitter with 65 homers, 110 stolen bases, 326 runs and 242 RBIs over five Minor League seasons in the San Diego organization.
"We still view him as a prospect, but he has to bounce back from injuries and some swing adjustments he made last year," White Sox general manager Rick Hahn told reporters at the GM meetings of the 25-year-old Tekotte. "He can run a little bit, play good defense, with a nice line drive stroke."
Hamstring injuries plagued Tekotte in 2012, knocking his average down to .243 at Triple-A Tucson. But Hahn said that Tekotte, who was designated for assignment by the Padres on Nov. 3, has a chance to break big league camp as an extra outfielder for the team.
