Fausto Carmona: Back with confidence
A year removed from rookie ball, righty pitching well in '10
I've had a lot of ups and downs the last few seasons. But even when I was sent back to rookie ball last year, I never believed I was in trouble. That's because everything was there for me physically.
Now, pitching this year and making the All-Star team, I feel good.
When I went back down, my velocity was always there, so I knew I would be able to come back strong. I just knew that I had to work hard to get back up. That's what I was focusing on.
During that whole time, my confidence never wavered. I knew that I would work my way back, and that was a big thing for me.
I cannot say enough good things about the way I was treated by everyone in the Indians organization throughout that period. They never turned their backs on me, and I'm very happy with the way I was supported.
Getting to the All-Star Game this year was huge validation for me. The hard work did pay off.
I was excited about the opportunity to pitch in the All-Star Game. I wanted to pitch, but it just didn't happen. It was still a great experience.
Fausto Carmona has won an Indians-high 11 games this season, his fifth season with the club. In 2007, the right-hander went 19-8 and finished fourth in American League Cy Young Award voting before slipping to 8-7 with a 5.44 ERA in 2008 and 5-12 with a 6.32 ERA last year.
