Coaching Career

Begins his second season as the White Sox first base coach … spent the 1998-2012 seasons in the Sox player development system, including the last 12 as the minor-league outfield instructor … served as hitting coach at advanced rookie Bristol (1998) and Class A Burlington (1999), helping each team win its respective league title, and Class A Winston-Salem in 2000 … spent the 1996 season as a player/coach with Regina in the independent Prairie League.

Playing Career

Played 11 seasons in the Major Leagues with the White Sox (1984-90), Mets (1990-92), Colorado (1993) and Yankees (1994) … batted .249 (655-2,629) with 83 home runs, 278 RBI and 98 stolen bases in 1,058 games … his best season came in 1990 when he hit .272 (100-367) with 12 home runs, 45 RBI and 19 stolen bases in 120 games with the White Sox and Mets … played 115 of his 120 games that season with New York-NL … hit a career-high 15 home runs with the White Sox in 1988 … played for the expansion Rockies in 1993, hitting .261 (76-291) with 14 homers and 40 RBI … made his Major-League debut on 5/13/84 vs. Texas, singling off Charlie Hough in his first at-bat … was selected by the Sox in the first round (seventh overall) of the 1981 draft.

Married Sherrilyn … has one child: Dash … graduated in 1981 from Woodward High School in Cincinnati, Ohio … father, Henry, managed the semipro Cincinnati Tigers baseball team, which featured future Major-Leaguer Dave Parker.
