Hit .247 (319-1,292) with 38 home runs and 143 RBI in 509 games over eight Major-League seasons with St. Louis (1984), Minnesota (1985-87), the Yankees (1987), White Sox (1988), Cleveland (1989) and Detroit (1990- 91) … doubled in his first Major-League at-bat with the Cardinals on 6/9/84 at Montreal … was named the Topps All-Rookie Catcher in 1985 after hitting .300 with nine homers and 41 RBI with the Twins … was traded to the Yankees for Joe Niekro on 7/6/87 … was traded by the Yankees with Dan Pasqua and Steve Rosenberg to the Sox in return for Rich Dotson and Scott Nielsen on 11/13/87.

Married Rose … has four children: Mark, Ashley, Nicole and Rico … graduated in 1979 from Nogales High School in La Puente, Calif., where he was an All-America linebacker in football … his brother, Bobby, was a pitcher in the Oakland A's organization … is one of five players in Major-League history with a palindrome as his last name.
